Mahindra South Africa has unveiled the next phase of its single-cab strategy with the all-new Bolero MaXX Pik-Up. Built on one of Mahindra’s most trusted nameplates in the country, the new model broadens the brand’s range of purpose-built transport solutions and doubles down on its focus on low cost-per-kilometre (CPK) and total cost of ownership.

Mahindra has built a strong reputation in the single-cab segment by serving entrepreneurs, fleet operators, agricultural businesses, contractors and municipalities. The Bolero MaXX adds a new platform to that offering, drawing on the Bolero name’s track record of reliability, durability, easy maintenance and value, while giving customers more choice to match a vehicle to their specific operational needs.

Three sizes for three kinds of work

The Bolero MaXX is on sale through more than 100 Mahindra dealerships nationwide in three variants: the 1.3 City, 1.5 City and 1.7 HD, rated to carry 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7 tonnes respectively. Mahindra’s established Pik Up S4 and S6 range remains on sale for buyers whose work involves higher speeds and longer distances.

Load bed lengths step up from 2.5 metres on the 1.3 City to 2.64 metres on the 1.5 City and 3.05 metres on the 1.7 HD. Every model fits a standard pallet between the wheel arches.

Despite that carrying ability, all three can be driven on a standard Code B licence. Compact dimensions, low mass and easy manoeuvrability also suit them to tight urban areas and sites where larger commercial vehicles struggle to gain access.

Keeping running costs low

The Bolero MaXX has been engineered with operating economy front of mind. Fuel consumption starts at 5.9 l/100 km, and 20,000 km service intervals help maximise uptime while keeping maintenance to a minimum.

Every model is powered by Mahindra’s proven 2.5-litre m2Di diesel engine. In the 1.3 City and 1.5 City it produces 52 kW and 200 Nm, rising to 60 kW and 220 Nm in the 1.7 HD. All variants are rear-wheel drive with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Inside the cab

The cabin seats three across wide cloth seats. On the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD, the seats carry a stain-resistant coating, and the driver’s seat reclines and adjusts for reach and height. These two models also come standard with air conditioning, heating and demisting, a powerful blower system and a lockable, air-cooled glovebox. Bottle holders, cabin lamps and a 12V power socket add everyday convenience.

Safety and protection

Rear parking sensors are standard across the range, with ABS available on the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD. Strong metal bumpers, underbody and side protection on the HD, an immobiliser and emergency locking retractor (ELR) seatbelts for all occupants round out the safety package.

Support beyond the sale

Every Bolero MaXX comes with a 4-year/120,000 km warranty and roadside assistance, and optional service plans are available for buyers who want fixed, predictable running costs.

Mahindra has also introduced two initiatives aimed at strengthening aftersales support. The Reach-Out Programme commits to acknowledging and addressing customer concerns within 24 hours. The Dealer Fleet Strategy equips the dealer network with specialised training and tailored commercial vehicle solutions for fleet operators, corporate customers and government organisations. Both are backed by an expanding dealer network, a growing parts infrastructure and ongoing investment in South Africa.

How much each model costs

The Bolero MaXX 1.3 City is priced at R199,000. It measures 4,800 mm long on a 3,150 mm wheelbase, with a 1,300 kg payload, a gross combination mass (GCM) of 2,804 kg and a cargo box measuring 2,500 mm long, 1,700 mm wide and 398 mm deep.

The 1.5 City costs R229,000. It stretches to 4,940 mm on a 3,265 mm wheelbase, carries 1,500 kg and has a GCM of 3,090 kg, with a 2,640 mm by 1,700 mm cargo box that is 398 mm deep.

At the top of the range, the 1.7 HD sells for R259,000. It is 5,345 mm long with a 3,290 mm wheelbase, a 1,700 kg payload and a GCM of 3,418 kg. Its cargo box is the largest of the three at 3,050 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 650 mm deep.
